The Inland Waterways Authority of India (IWAI) has extended the bid due date for renovation and modernization of the existing navigational lock at Farakka in the state of West Bengal under the Capacity Augmentation of National Waterway (NW)-1 from June 30, 2023 to July 17, 2023. Bids for the same were invited in May 2023.
The work is being implemented in engineering procurement and construction (EPC) mode.
The NW-1, Ganga-Bhagirathi-Hooghly river system is located in India and runs from Haldia (Sagar) to Varanasi across the Ganges, Bhagirathi and Hooghly river systems. It is 1,620 km long and passes through West Bengal, Jharkhand, Bihar and Uttar Pradesh and serves major cities and their industrial hinterland
