HLL Infratech Services Limited has commenced preparation of a master plan for two reaches i.e. 60 km long waterway between Akkulam and Kollam and 30 km long waterway between Kadalundy and Kallai River under the Kerala Inland Water Transport Project (NW-3). The project involves development of 616 km long inland waterway along West Coast Canal which is divided into 13 reaches from Kovalam to Bekal as National Waterway (NW-3) with an investment of Rs 65 billion of which Rs 24,512.40 million is already approved by Kerala Infrastructure Investment Fund Board (KFIIB) including the development of the Kovalam to Akkulam stretch of WCC and the Kozhikode Canal City project. The first phase of the project is expected to be completed by 2023-2024, while the second and third phases are expected to be complete in 2024-25 and 2025-26 respectively.
