According to Economic Survey FY 2023-24, capacity at major ports has nearly doubled since 2014. The Ministry for Ports, Shipping and Waterways estimates total port capacity to increase from 2,600 million tonnes per annum (mtpa) to more than 10,000 mtpa in 2047.
